THE PROVOST'S HOOSE

This property is called Ach-An-Eas. It is now a Council-owned residential home in Inverness but it was once the home of Dr. Alexander Ross, Provost of Inverness and a very distinguished highland architect who was responsible for the design and build of Inverness Cathedral – the first cathedral to be built in Britain since the Reformation.

The lamp-post in the foreground is to show that this was once the provost's house. All houses in the city that were homes to the provosts of Inverness have similar lamp-posts. This is a custom that continues to this day.
